The world is quiet and
the air is cool as the breeze washes the scent of the freshly rained-upon earth
over her senses again. She's sitting out on the porch; the old white-washed
wood of the bench mostly dry underneath her. She closes her eyes and breathes
deep.
"Hey." She opens her eyes at the voice. His
gentle baritone is soft, as if he doesn't want to wake the world now that it is
finally still.
He's brought her something: a cup of her favourite flavor
of tea, and the warmth from the mug seeps into her bones as she accepts it with
a smile and carefully cradles it in her hands. It tastes smooth on the way down…
not too hot, and not too sweet.
He settles himself in at her feet- the bench is big
enough for two, but he likes to feel the warmth of her legs at his back. He's
told her as much before.
She takes her gaze away from the soft grey of the dawn
and looks at him for a moment. His hair is still mussed from sleep, and there
are lines on his shoulder from where his skin was pressed to the sheets. She
follows the outline of his neck and a smile forms on her lips as she studies
the gentle curve of his ear, remembering the first time she learned that it was
a weak spot of his; a few strokes and he'd be out like a light.
She could spend forever, just seeing.
He notices her observations out of the corner of his eye,
and she sees the corner of his lips quirk up into a small smile. He runs his
hand up and down her leg and rests his fingers at her toes.
It feels like the dawn could just go on forever.
